Easter eggs in CS2 maps
Almost every map in the game has hidden objects or fun references. We’re not talking about used models from other Valve games, like the red car out of the Mirage, but about really cool and creative Easter eggs.
Death counter in Vertigo

The most interesting thing in Vertigo is the death counter. But it only tracks deaths caused by falling off the map. CT and T spawners have one, and the number increases each time the player falls into the void. There’s also a helicopter from Left4Dead that flies around skyscrapers, but it’s less impressive.
CS:Source at Inferno

The new version of Inferno has some awesome secrets. The first is a hidden room in the church. Just to the left of the CT entrance, there is a locked door. If you bypass it using cheats, you will see… a TV showing the CS: Source main menu.
But that’s not all! Some street names on the map are references from Valve developers or map makers. And you can even find Inferno from CS:GO inside Inferno from CS2. All you need to do is look for the painting that shows the second middle of the old version of the map.
Olofpass and other Easter eggs in Overpass
The flyover is full of references. They start right at spawning time! Running from base T towards bombing site B, you can:
- See graffiti with “1UP”, the famous Berlin graffiti crew;
- Listen to music behind a nearby door. This is a track from Portal 2, another Valve classic;
- Find the burning CT painting at site B. It refers to the legendary taming by olofmeister.

Heading towards bomb site A, you’ll find more fun stuff. There is a picture of a dragon on the playground, which is a callback to the Cobblestone mosaic. Near the table with balloons, there is a plush toy that references the loading screen from L4D. And if you peek behind the CT truck, you’ll find a “no climbing” sign. This is another tribute to the olofmeister left there after the famous SSG 08 upgrade ten years ago.

And that’s not all! In the bank near location B, there is a calendar showing a scene from the Operation Riptide trailer. A little treat for true CS fans.
Pigeons on a Train

Trains also have lots of references, from the simple to the hidden. In older versions, there was a “Heaven” position above bomb site A. It has now been removed, but is remembered with a graffiti tag.
Above site A, there is also a picture of a dog above “longdog”. The dog, or “popdog”, is a tribute to the mapmaking team that created the original Train for CS 1.6.
In T spawn, there is a train schedule with stations such as Bank, Lake, Cobblestone, and Warehouse. All but the last are upcoming CS2 maps.

Around site B, there is a locked room with a screen showing an old version of the Train and a paper with a logo from Valve’s in-game world. One of these logos even appears on the weapon skin. We are talking about the Coalition M4A4.
Lastly, you’ll find a trash can with pigeon graffiti near Ivy. This one recalls a funny CS:GO bug: players used to jump on a dove on the ivy and fly off the map! The bugs have been fixed, but the pigeons remain as a tribute to those chaotic times.
Nuke: chicken evacuation plan
Most CS2 maps have chickens, but no Nuke. Why? Due to official notification! Outside the playable area, you can find a whiteboard listing tasks, including “stop allowing chickens into the facility.” Looks like they already did. Moreover, from the CT van, you can hear a very familiar tone. Fans of Valve games will immediately recognize it. Take a look and see if you can guess it yourself!
Office with vintage radio broadcasts
Office is one of the oldest maps, dating back to CS BETA 7.0. CT must rescue hostages in a snowy office building. The map not only includes a nifty fire extinguisher but also pop culture Easter eggs, like a Wall Street poster in the kitchen and a soda can that looks similar to Mountain Dew.

But the main Easter egg is the radio in T spawn:
- It plays a cryptic news broadcast about the happenings at the office, which is the same as the one on the map!
- The voice on the radio is that of Gabe Newell himself, co-founder of Valve;
- And if you listen carefully, four hostages are mentioned, even though now there are only two. This is a relic from the old version where there used to be four NPCs.

Lastly, we can’t forget the goose graffiti on the A Dust 2 site. It’s not just a bird. This is a tribute to the creator of the game. Minh Le, known as Gooseman, is one of the fathers of Counter-Strike. Swan is a nod to his nickname, a small nod to the man who started it all.
